| 388 | I am having a hard time placing Rebecca Jane Romines facts: The manuscript by William Bethel Romines says that Layting and Mary had a daughter Rebecca. Trees have this Rebecca Jane Romines listed either under Layton and Mary or their son George Washington Romines and Sally Richards If the birth date for this Rebecca Jane is 1833 then I feel she is to old for Mary Foster to parent (she would be 48). | Romines, Rebecca Jane (I142513310398)

| 393 | In 1925, Robert E. Romine and his family were living in St. Marys in Perry County Missouri. They moved there for a job building a bridge. He had arranged to rented a house. When they arrived the people would not rent to them. Old Man Axel was the contractor building the bridge. He loaned them a tent and that's where the family lived. They lived there until the tent blew away. When Clarence talks with this brothers, Lewis and Vernon, about the tent blowing away each has their memories. Lewis remembers that they were outside trying to hold the tent down and it suddenly blew away. Vernon remembers waking up feeling wet. He thought that Lewis might have wet the bed, but then suddenly the tent was gone and he saw the sky. Clarence, who was just a little older than one year doesn't remember the incident, but later in life he had many times when he dreamed about a drip of water falling on him. The drip grew and grew until it was a deluge. It might have been an early memory of the tent blowing down, but who knows? After making this connection, Clarence didn't have the dream again. Afterwards, the family went back to St. Louis on the bus. Vernon remembered on the trip back that a lady gave them a quarter probably because they looked destitute. Clarence's first recollection was at two years old. Robert bought three adjacent lots near what is today Lambert field which was owned by Johnny Dietrich. Between St. John's and St. Anne's. He build a house on the lots. He was in the front seat of the truck with his mother, but he was worried about his brothers (Elton, Lewis and Vernon) in the back with the furniture. The place was on Lenora Avenue. Robert worked once for Wagner Electric. The last job was for Curtis Manufacturing Company which made compressors. He could walk to the street car line on St. Charles Rock Road. At the farm, they raised chickens and a cow or two. They sold chickens, eggs, milk, and vegetables from the garden. The boys sold eggs door-to-door. Clarence attended Marvin School on St. Charles Rock Road. There were enough kids to have two rooms with about 30 kids in each. He attended from the first grade in 1930. The school started by half years so Clarence started in January after being six in November. One time Clarence when returning from travels many years later, he took a train from the airport to St. Louis to catch a Greyhound bus. He saw the abandoned Wagner Electric factory where Robert had worked. Moved to St. James in 1935 to the farm near Dillon's School. Clarence attended the Dillon's school until the eighth grade in 1938. Oddly, he finished the sixth grade and then took the eigth grade. The seventh grade can the next years. There were two students his age, he and a girl, Betty. Betty moved away so Clarence graduated in at the top of a class of one. Some of Clarence's recollections of school are: One time they picked persimmons. The teacher wasn't there that day so that had a persimmon fight. "If we could talk the girls into it, we could play baseball or softball with about five on each side." Sidney, Wayne, Thomas, and Jiggs where some of the classmates. Recorded in a conversation between Clarence and James Romine on Feb 21, 2009. | Romine, Clarence Richard (I44033647488)
