Wild Bill and Calamity Jane In the Days of '75 and '76, filmed in Nebraska in 1915, was one of the first silent movies. Freeda Hartzell Romine played the leading role in the film. She was born in Nebraska but grew up in Deadwood SD. That's where she learned to be an expert rifle shot and honed her skills well enough to be featured in the 1904 World Fair in St. Louis with Will Rogers.
